Press Release                         27th January 2008

 MUSEUM EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

With a new year comes new challenges, and for one of Weston-super-Mare’s largest tourist attractions this year’s challenge is simply to get more children interested in helicopters and aviation.

The Helicopter Museum has already appointed a lottery funded Education Officer to liaise with local schools and groups and is currently in the process of building a brand new classroom and film theatre facility on site. The Museum will also be unveiling new interactive displays this season and it’s Summer Exhibition will be aimed at a much younger audience than in previous years.

Museum Education Officer, Heather Fowler said “ The Helicopter Museum is an ideal place to get local children interested in aviation and it is a learning resource that is quite literally right on their doorstep”

And its not just young visitors the museum welcomes, its volunteers too.

“We already have several restoration volunteers in their late teens “ Heather added “and even one young lady who is helping to restore helicopters as part of the Duke Of Edinburgh Award Scheme.”
