Weston Attraction Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary

Tickets went on sale today for a special one night only event to celebrate The Helicopter Museum’s 20th Anniversary. The World famous aviation attraction first opened its doors to the public in November 1989 and now 20 years later it proudly boasts the Worlds largest collection of rotorcraft.

To celebrate its 20th Anniversary the museum has partnered up with the Royal Air Force Association to host a Classical Concert and Hangar Dance.

“ The first set of the evening will include all the popular ‘last night of the proms’ favourites performed by the 35 piece R.A.F.A Concert Band with a mixture of aviation themed favourites thrown in for good measure.” Explained Museum Manager Lee Mills “As the whole event is being staged in an aviation hangar, surrounded by real historic aircraft, guests can expect to hear classical renditions of The Dambusters March and 633 Squadron to really get them in the mood of the occasion.”

For the second of the evening’s acts, the R.A.F.A Dance Band will take to the stage to get the guests up on to the dance floor and the whole museum swinging to the tunes of Glen Miller and the lively sounds of the 1940’s and 50’s. A Themed licensed bar will also be serving refreshments both during and between the two performances.

“A lot of hard work has taken place over the years in establishing and improving our museum and its collection” Lee added “so we really want to celebrate this anniversary in style and invite as many people as possible to join us in the celebrations.”

“Smart dress is requested with period and aviation attire optional, so if anybody is looking for an excuse to dust off the old flight jacket, penny loafers or poodle skirts, then here is the perfect opportunity.”

Tickets are priced at just £9.50, which includes an evening buffet and are on sale from The Helicopter Museum Shop and the Weston-super-Mare Tourist Information Centre.

All the money raised from the evening will go towards the upkeep of the museums historic collection and to the Royal Air Force Association. The Helicopter Museum is a Registered Charity ( Number 281053 ).
