Press Release
26th April 2008 Rescue at Sea Exhibition opens at The Helicopter Museum
After weeks of painting scenery, hoisting rigging and assembling displays the exhibition is all set to open, appropriately on MAY DAY, Thursday 1st May. “This year we’ve aimed our exhibition at a much younger audience” said Museum Operations Manager Lee Mills “as we wanted to put on a large display that would really appeal to children as well as adults. As such there is a continual film show, atmospheric soundtrack and a special fun sheet for all the ‘mini rescuers’ who visit.” ‘Rescue At Sea’ which highlights the important role played by the local coastguard agencies and lifeboat institutions also explains the significance that helicopters play in rescue operations at sea. Help on the large scale display has also come from Weston Lifeboat Station with the loan of several artefacts for the exhibition. Mary Fernlea, a volunteer at both The Helicopter Museum and Weston Lifeboat Shop added “It really is wonderful to see the two local charities working together towards a common goal and as a part of this collaboration with the Weston Lifeboat there are opportunities within the exhibition for visitors to donate money to this very worthwhile cause.”
