Hailed as the biggest and best public
helicopter show in Europe and Weston-super-Mare's biggest summertime
event, International HeliDays Plus this year is celebrating the 100th
anniversary of the first helicopter flight with an impressive line-up at
its traditional seafront venue.
The four day event kicks off on
Thursday 26 July at midday with the famous Red Arrows formation display
team performing over Weston Bay.
They will be followed during the
afternoon by a series of other flying displays, including a Battle of
Britain Flight Spitfire, Royal Air Force fast jet displays, The Royal
Navy Historic Flight and Black Cats Lynx Helicopter Display Team, The
RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team and a Belgian Sea King search and
rescue demonstration.
The Belgian helicopter will also mark the beginning of a number of
arrivals for the Beach Lawns static park, which this year will boast
two Sikorsky HH-3 F "Jolly Green Giant " combat search and rescue
helicopters from the Italian Air Force, a Sea King and Lynx from the
German Navy, a Royal Air Force Puma and a mix of other military and
civil helicopters from all over the UK and Europe. These will
progressively fill up the southern end of the Beach Lawns and be
available for close up inspection by the public over the following three
days. Helicopter Pleasure Flights will also be available from the nearby
beach .
The Beach Lawns entertainment line up will continue with children's
rides, an art and craft fair, a flight simulator, and a variety of other
stalls and attractions, including a weekend military vehicle display.
Companies interested in taking space in this area of the event should
contact the organisers quickly on 01934 822 524, as the last spaces are
filling up fast. All other enquiries, including accommodation enquiries
should be directed to the Visitor Information Centre on 01934 888 800.
International HeliDays Plus is organised and run almost wholly by
volunteers, with the aim of raising money for local charities and is
supported by North Somerset Council and Weston Town Council.
Event Director, Capt Elfan Ap Rees, said: "Compared to most other air
shows, where ticket prices can start at £20 for each adult the HeliDays
event represents incredible value, with admission this year set at just
£2 per adult and half price for children. A lot of people give up their
time to organise and staff the event and I hope this will be rewarded by
the support and attendance of the public over the four days . "
