HELICOPTER MUSEUM HOSTS WEDDING RECEPTION The aircraft hangers of a local attraction reverberated to the sounds of disco music this weekend as The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-mare hosted its first ever Wedding Reception. The 70 plus guests of Bride and Groom Katja and John Collins enjoyed a unique mix of traditional wedding fayre alongside guided tours of the helicopter collection and opportunities to climb into one of the cockpits and be shown the controls by an experienced guide. Wedding photography was taken around the various aircraft and the bouquet throwing ceremony took place in front of the Queens Royal Flight Helicopter. The couple, both keen transport enthusiasts arrived with their guests at the museum in a 1960s red London Route-master RM180 double-decker bus. In order to prepare for the large scale event, helicopters from the collection needed to be re-sited, displays moved and a marquee erected in the hanger. Electrics were set up for atmospheric lighting and music, tables laid out for the diners and the marquee decorated with balloons, garlands and a chocolate fountain as the centre piece. Upon learning that the bride had never flown in a helicopter, all the volunteers working on the night clubbed together to buy the happy couple a wedding gift of a helicopter flight to take after their honeymoon. Museum Operations Manager Lee Mills, who organised the event with the help of volunteers John Maslen and Derek Brown said “The whole evening was an overwhelming success. The guests really enjoyed themselves and they couldn’t believe that this was the first wedding reception the museum had ever hosted.”
