2nd May 2008 The Helicopter Museum 2008 Air Experience Guide The Helicopter Museum in Weston-super-Mare has published a new Air Experience Guide – How The Helicopter Flies, designed for members of the public taking their first helicopter flight, and others who are thinking about it but have concerns. The 12 page booklet explores in plain English the myths of engine failure and the difficulties of piloting, using simple drawings to explain how the helicopter works and just why flying in them is much safer than many people think. Compiled by practising pilot and HELICOPTER International Editor Elfan ap Rees and published with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the booklet will be made available free of charge to passengers booking Flights at The Helicopter Museum, as well as being sold via the museum bookshop. The next batch of helicopter flight dates has been scheduled for May 11th (Open Cockpit day) and the Bank Holiday Weekend of May 25th & 26th. Also The Helicopter Museum’s new Summer exhibition ‘Rescue At Sea’ is going down a storm with younger visitors who have been busy ‘hunting starfish’ and watching helicopter and lifeboat rescues on the new ‘TV Tugboat’. The exhibition with its atmospheric sound effects track of crashing waves and high winds opened appropriately on MAY DAY, Thursday May 1st with free gifts courtesy of the RNLI being given to all its visitors. ‘Rescue At Sea’ will run until the end of August.
