Press Release
1st January 2008 AN EVENTFUL YEAR Its been quite an eventful year for one of Weston-super-Mare’s tourist attractions.2007 proved to be the busiest yet for The Helicopter Museum with admissions reaching an all time high and their Helicopter Experience Flights proving more popular than ever. It was also a good year for group bookings at the museum as Head Tour Guide Ray Caple explained “ I took over 1400 people on pre-booked guided tours this year, that is a personal record for me and already I have nearly 150 people booked in for January alone”As well as the increased visitor numbers in 2007 the year also proved to be eventful in other ways. First there was the announcement that the museum had been granted a £295,500 Heritage Lottery Grant to build a long awaited Education and Film Theatre on site. Then the hosting of a number of car rally’s and corporate events throughout the summer, culminating in the first ever wedding reception to be held at the museum. The Museum was also extended this year to make room for a number of new acquisitions including a German MBB Bo105M donated by Eurocopter, a Bristol Sycamore MK14 and a rare tandem seat Air and Space 18A Autogyro. If that wasn’t enough for one year the museum was also visited by Her Majesty The Queen when her husband, The Duke Of Edinburgh opened the new hanger extension in July. “It’s hard to believe that all this has happened in just one year” commented Museum Manager Wendy Cowlin “It’s all been very exciting and 2007 will certainly be a well remembered year in the history of the museum.” The Helicopter Museum is the largest of its kind in the world and is a registered charity. Open Wed – Sun 10am – 4.30pm
